Current Events Connections

Good morning Media Studies!

With the goal of keeping our Video Blogs current and sharp, I have planned this opening.  Based on our video blog issues, you are going to search for the most relevant and timely article that connects to the work.  Here are the five topics of our Video Blogs:

  • The Ethnic Studies Debate in Arizona
  • The Impact of War on Families of Soldiers
  • The Identity of New Haven
  • The Trayvon Martin Tragedy: Race in America
  • The War on Women
Your task:

1. Go to Google News.  Search for and read one of the most recent articles that connects to your Video Blog topic or the topic of another group.

2.  Create a "New Post" on this blog.  Write a title, post the link, identify the takeaway and ask one thought-provoking question to accompany your post.

3.  Review the stories, takeaways and questions that your classmates post.  Choose one article to read closely and comment on the post by answering their thought-provoking question and adding your own takeaway.

Above is my link to this website, I found it very interesting because it was respectfully debating topics involving the Ethnic Studies Band. Also, other topics were covered, such as: Women's Rights and Bringing Bible's Into classrooms. I believe bringing Bibles into classrooms would be a wonderful thing, don't we have freedom of speech? As long as we don't force some one into our Religion, isn't that okay?

    1. I found an interesting line in that article
"Given the apathy of American voters we should welcome a fired-up electorate."

Americans don't all care when they vote, and other people want to get them interested in voting because if no one is interested in voting then what's the point ?

  2. The Soldiers Project - http://www.thesoldiersproject.org/

This is a website with lots of valuable information it can really help on the topic about the soldiers families. They have articles to read and they're helping soldiers and their families with any psychological problems that arise from the time their in military services to the time they return. It has a lot of good articles if the group would like to explore the site.

Who knew that the government knew of the emotional risks that soldiers and their families go through. I think the government is selfish.

Read an article describing some of the mental professionals work and answer the question below.

-Do you think that the soldiers deserve this?

-How does the government help this project?

-What do you believe actually goes on in the minds of these professionals when they encounter a difficult patient?

I think that the thing i found to be most significant was the fact that 31% of women felt that their access to services such as birth control and contraception. That's a pretty big number .

Why are women so divided in this issue ?
