Premiere of anticipated film at Metro

Looking forward to watching this with the Media Studies class at Metropolitan on Friday, March 2. Here are two posters for film screenings taking place around the country. When can we have a community screening here at Metro? What should the posters look like? How can we bring the community together?

  1. In my opinion, before we even have a movie screening - we should educate people about the topic and get them "in the know". People aren't going to want to come see a movie, on something they don't understand or know about. I think we should focus on the students and staff of our school and get other classes and teachers to be as passionate as we are about this issue. If they become as passionate as we are - they will be busting down the doors to see the movie!

To Do This I Have 3 Ideas:
    1) Tell the staff at a staff meeting. Perhaps show a powerpoint or the movie trailer.
    2) On both lunch waves open the lecture hall up for a ten minute or so presentation about what is going on in Tuscon. Make it an elevator speech or short powerpoint.
    3) Make it an assignment for each student to find one person in the building (or at home if they are desperate) and convince them personally to have them agree to come see the movie.

Once we have convinced people, we can remind them by posting posters around the school. I think the poster should definitely incorporate the logo of the movie "Precious Knowledge" with the font and everything. I also think it is a good idea to incorporate pictures or people from the movie onto the poster. And I definitely think it should have the saying "No history is illegal"! I picture it as a black poster with white/yellow writing like the movie cover. I can also picture like a border or some kind of clip art with roses since those are a prominent symbol. And perhaps; if there's room - a picture of the Arizona logo crossing out HB2281.

Now how would we actually make all this happen? I think a good time to show this movie would be directly after school during the week; in the lecture hall. I think it would be a better turnout than on the weekend or a Friday. The staff stay after school anyways and students can receive a bus token. Maybe run the movie from 2:30-4:30 with some popcorn. (You can sell the popcorn or ask for donations to support the Tuscon students)

I think we can use this our school, our home base; as a trial run. To see if people get passionate and to see if they like it. (Also to see if we get a good turnout.) If it's successful then perhaps we can proceed on to informing/bringing together the outside community.

  4. When could we have this screening ? AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ! As a class i feel we should dedicate a lot of time to planning and organzing this event , because a community wide event is a big thing. For something like this we want to fill our school to capactiy. Maybe we could have three screenings: one in the gym , one in the cafe , one in the lecture hall. I definitly know that would be somewhere near 500 people !

Hopefully more ! To get our city to recgonize something positive and heartbreaking wouold be an imporvement.

The posters have to be something visually impacting , something to grab everyones attention ! Something that would make you say woowww . Maybe we could even get airtime from a radio station

A movie screening of this movie would be an awesome thing ! We need to raise awarness , not just for things happening around the world but for things that are happening around our own country. We need to build the awareness of people to show them that social injustice is still happening. These kids don't have the right to study a subject that actually helps them succede.

  5. I most defenitly believe that everyone should watch this film from student to teachers and parents . Everyone should have the opportunity to witness the students of tucson point of view . This will also get some students to appreciate what the take for granted " the freedom of education " We in New Haven can take any elective and not have someone snatch it before our eyes like it was done to the student at Tucson . I think we should have a screening at our lecture hall and put up posters that say " We have the freedome of our education " or " Take back whats OUR'S " with bright colors that will catch people attention .

  7. we need to show awareness about this topic to the students and teachers, just like their doing with the "Kony 2012" situation by using what catches the human eye such as social networks, the media, and thru music. I don't think we should show the whole movie because some of the students may find the topic uninteresting and/or may not care since it's non of their business, making a shorten video using scenes for the movie and having our class example the situation and describe what they feel should be done about it would be better, well at least to me. We should also have an assemble the week before April vacation, so we can demonstrate our video, share our thoughts and opinions about this situation, and get others ideas and thought of what should be do. Making posters is an outstanding idea, it allows students to be creative, also share their insides about this topic, and example the problem thats accruing in Tucson, Arizona. but we need to make sure the posters are exciting ,so the students or teachers who see it know this topic is important and that their opinion is crucial.

PS, we should have a class discuss about "Kony 2012" ,I think it would be interesting to get my classmates thoughts about whats going on.
