Young People's Ideas: Read and Connect!

When I was on Facebook the other night, I came across a post by the Zinn Education Project that I immediately wanted to share with you, the Media Studies Community.

Here it is:  Letters From Arizona Students

Review these letters and choose one of the young people to connect with and respond to; then, you will write them a personalized letter with your own thoughts about the issue of the Ethnic Studies Ban.

  1. Wow!It's astonishing to think how many people were affected by this. To think that we're wasting precious time on something we shouldn't even be talking about ;making us Americans look ignorant and incompetent. People say this current generation is the first generation to have all their equal rights but how much of that is true? Take the Trayvon case for example, a man killed him just because he looked “suspicious”. I can't lie we have improved tremendously but there's still a lot of work to be done. To me Americans don't like Hispanics or other race's coming into their country just because their afraid that they will someday, turn out better than them. my theory is if one day all that Immigrants are kicked out of America it will end up in bigger debt than it already is.Immigrants do the jobs most Americans are to lazy to do and that’s just the realty. I don't understand why can't we all just treat each other like human begins, what makes a person think that their better than another race , it's just mind boggling to me. Tucson, Arizona situation reminds me of the movie Wasteland we watched in class; when that elderly man said 99 is not 100 and one can, can make a huge difference in the environment . if the "catadores" job makes big difference in the world why can't Mexican- American cultures? Everything you do or say will affect everyone in the world no matter how small, that's why we must always think twice before we act or speak. The teachers and students of Arizona are an example that anyone can make a differences in the world, if their dedicated. People migrate to America so they could have the "American dream " shouldn't that be an honor for Americans?when they arrive here some American's make you feel like we we're not welcome here; we're just "trash" taking up space in their precious land, maybe that's why they start to commit crimes; sense they believe we're trash why not act like it. But When Americans come to our country for vacations or other reasons we welcome them with open-arms (most countries not all).I'm not just saying America the only country that thinks this way, I'm only mentioning it because it's the country involved with this situation.
